            Tax bills will be mailed at the end of June 2023 with a payment stub for each installment. 
            There is only ONE mailing of tax bills.

            What We Do
            The Tax Division is responsible for the issuing of tax bills and the collection of all taxes (real estate, personal property and motor vehicles), and tax liens levied by the City. 
              
            When Are Tax Bills Due? When will I receive my Bill? 
            Real Estate Taxes over $100 are due in two installments, on July 1st and January 1st. All bills are mailed in June with enough copies for each installment. To ensure you receive a copy of your bill, your mailing address must be updated with the Assessor's office. Please contact our office: 
            
                - when you purchase a new property. 
 
                - when you change mailing addresses.
 
                - when you have paid off your mortgage.
 
                 
             
              
            Personal Property Taxes over $100 are due in two installments, on July 1st and January 1st. All bills are mailed in June with enough copies for each installment.             Regular Motor Vehicle Taxes are due in one installment on July 1st. Bills are mailed for any vehicle registered in New London as of October 1st of the previous year. To ensure you receive a copy of your bill, your mailing address must be updated with the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Post Office.  
              
            Supplemental Motor Vehicle Taxes are due in one installment on January 1st. Bills are mailed for any vehicle registered in New London between October 2nd and July 31st. To ensure you receive a copy of your bill, your mailing address must be updated with the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Post Office.  
              
            Penalty
            The grace period for each installment is thirty days (30) from the due date. 
            Failure to receive a bill shall not invalidate the tax nor interest pursuant to State Statute. Taxpayers who did not receive a bill should contact our office immediately or go online to www.mytaxbill.net/newlondon.  
            Interest penalties on delinquent taxes accrue at a rate of 1.5% per month, minimum $2.00 by State Statute. 
             
            Checks returned for insufficient funds will be assessed an additional twenty dollar ($20.00) fee and tax, interest and penalty will be required to be paid by certified check or cash.

            DMV clearance
            To obtain a clearance, all motor vehicles taxes in your name need to be paid in good funds.  
            0-day hold on cash payments, money orders, and cashier's checks 
            2-day hold on debit or credit card payments 
            10-day hold on personal checks or E-checks 
              
             Mill Rate 
            Mill Rate for Fiscal Year 2023 for Real Estate and Personal Property is 37.31 
            Mill Rate for Fiscal Year 2023 for Motor Vehicles is 32.46 
             City Center District Mill Rate Fiscal Year 2023 is 1.15  
            A Mill is 1/1000 of a dollar. 
            Taxes are computed by multiplying the assessed value of a property by the mill rate. 
            Example: Assessed Value of Property $200,000 Mill Rate 37.31 
            Therefore: $200,000 x .03731 = $7,462.00 annual tax 
            Or: $37.31 in taxes for every $1000 of assessment.
