For Immediate Release January 17, 2025
Winter Parking Restrictions
Due to the forecast for significant snowfall/and frigid temperatures beginning Sunday afternoon, January 19th, and continuing overnight and until mid-day on Monday, January 20th, residents and visitors are reminded that the City of New London’s Winter Parking Restrictions are in effect.
Also, A DOWNTOWN PARKING BAN WILL BE PUT INTO EFFECT FROM 10:00 PM SUNDAY, 1/19, until the end of snow removal activities, predicted to be by Monday evening, 1/20. Parking on streets in the downtown district and the municipal surface parking lot is prohibited. Vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense to permit clearing streets and parking lots. The public is invited to park in the Water Street Parking garage free of charge until Tuesday afternoon, 1/21. The downtown parking ban will be in effect during the storm.
Citywide winter parking restrictions include the following:
• No Parking on NARROW STREETS.
• Where parking is permitted ON ONLY ONE SIDE OF THE STREET, FOLLOW POSTED REGULATIONS.
• Where parking is permitted ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STREET, PARK ON THE “EVEN” SIDE OF THE STREET ONLY.
• New London Police will be strictly enforcing these restrictions for safety purposes. New London Public Works, Fire, and Police experience significant difficulties and challenges responding to requests for services, clearing the roadways, and responding to emergencies with vehicles improperly parking each year on the following streets: Michael Rd, Anthony Rd, Boulder Drive, Buchanan Rd, Rogers St, Connecticut Ave, Belden St, Ledyard St, Mountain Ave, Cape Ann Court, Eastern Ave at the top of the hill, Terrace Ave and Bragaw St. The New London Police will be vigilant. They will issue tickets and tow improperly parked vehicles during this snow event.
All vehicle owners must cooperate so the snow can be efficiently removed and roadways can be opened for emergency vehicles to respond to all requests for assistance and public use. Residents and visitors should be patient while city public works employees work diligently to clear our streets.
