12/17/2025 - New London Snow Management Plan 2025-2026

December 17, 2025                             FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New London Announces Snow Management Plan for the 2025-2026 Winter Season. The city focuses on communication and cooperation to keep streets and sidewalks passable during storm events. The city has specific snow management plans for Downtown, Fort Trumbull, and residential neighborhoods.  In each case, parking restrictions and bans will be communicated on the City of New London’s websites (www.newlondonct.gov and https://parkinnewlondon.com/) and social media platforms https://www.facebook.com/CityofNewLondonCT/ and https://www.facebook.com/NewLondonPolice/).

New London Public Works plow streets, city parking lots, Board of Education properties, city-owned sidewalks, and Residential Neighborhoods.  The timing of winter storm parking restrictions will be decided for each storm. Once restrictions begin, parking is allowed only on the side with odd-numbered addresses. Snow will be plowed to create at least one travel lane on each street. If parking is typically only allowed on one side, cars may continue to park on that side.  No Parking on NARROW STREETS, where parking is permitted ON ONLY ONE SIDE OF THE STREET, FOLLOW POSTED REGULATIONS, where parking is permitted ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STREET, PARK ON THE ODD SIDE OF THE STREET ONLY.  NO PARKING IN NEW LONDON PUBLIC SCHOOL PARKING LOTS. The New London Police Department shall be ticketing and towing vehicles in violation of the Parking Ban. New London Public Works, Police, and Fire have difficulties responding to service requests, clearing roadways, and handling emergencies when vehicles are improperly parked each year.  Historically, parking issues have been in the following areas: Michael Rd., Anthony Rd., Boulder Dr., Buchanan Rd., Rogers St., Connecticut Ave., Belden St., Ledyard St., Mountain Ave., Cape Ann Court, Eastern Ave. (at the top of the hill), Terrace Ave. and Bragaw St., Terrace Court and the Downtown Business area. As each storm approaches, the Department of Public Works will monitor the weather and notify the city’s storm team 16 hours before the predicted arrival, if possible.

Downtown parking bans will be decided within 8 hours of the storm’s predicted arrival, with special consideration for business hours and scheduled events.  When downtown parking bans are announced, No Parking on any streets in the Downtown Area. The Water Street Parking Garage will be open for downtown residents and visitors at no charge for the duration of the snow event. NO PARKING IN THE MUNICIPAL PARKING LOTS during Parking Bans. Parking Restrictions include the Municipal Parking Lots.

Cooperation from all vehicle owners is needed to efficiently remove snow and open roadways for emergency vehicles and public use. Residents and visitors should be patient while public works employees clear the streets.
