12/26/2025 - Winter Parking Restrictions and Downtown Parking Ban 12-26-2025

December 26, 2025                For Immediate Release

Winter Parking Restrictions and Downtown Parking Ban

Due to the forecast for significant snowfall beginning today, Friday, December 26, 2025, in the early evening hours and continuing overnight and into much of the day on Saturday, December 27, 2025, residents and visitors are reminded that the City of New London’s Winter Parking Restrictions are in effect.

  • A DOWNTOWN PARKING BAN WILL BE PUT INTO EFFECT tonight, Friday, December 26, 2025, at 11:00 PM until the end of the snow event, which is anticipated to be Saturday afternoon.  Parking on downtown district streets or the municipal surface parking lot will not be allowed. Residents and other motorists can park in the Water Street Garage for FREE beginning at 6:00 PM on Friday, December 26, 2025. Vehicles are allowed to be stored at the WSG until 12:00 PM, Noon on Sunday, December 28th, 2025.
  • No Overnight Parking in the Municipal Lots located on Eugene O’Neill Drive between Pearl Street and Tilley Street. This will be strictly enforced. Vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense to permit street and parking lot clearing. The downtown parking ban will be in effect for the duration of the storm and while plowing operations are ongoing.

Citywide winter parking restrictions include the following:

• No Parking on NARROW STREETS.

• Where parking is permitted ON ONLY ONE SIDE OF THE STREET, FOLLOW POSTED REGULATIONS.

• Where parking is permitted ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STREET, PARK ON THE “ODD” SIDE OF THE STREET ONLY.

• New London Police will be strictly enforcing these restrictions for safety purposes. New London Public Works, Fire, and Police experience significant difficulties and challenges responding to requests for services, clearing the roadways, and responding to emergencies with vehicles improperly parking each year on the following streets; Michael Rd, Anthony Rd, Boulder Drive, Buchanan Rd, Rogers St, Connecticut Ave, Belden St, Ledyard St, Mountain Ave, Cape Ann Court, Eastern Ave at the top of the hill, Terrace Ave and Bragaw St. The New London Police will be vigilant. They will issue tickets and tow improperly parked vehicles during this snow event. People living in the Michael Road/Anthony Road neighborhood are encouraged to park their vehicles in the Bates Woods Park parking lot to assist with plowing operations.

With the Christmas Holiday and the snowstorm, trash pickup may be delayed. However, residents should leave trash/recycle cans at the curb, and Public Works will address them after the storm. Cooperation is needed by the community so we can effectively address the storm and the refuge collection.
