                   For Immediate Release

January 23, 2026                    Parking Restrictions during Snowstorm

A significant snowstorm is forecast for Sunday, January 25, 2026, through Monday evening, January 26, 2026. Residents and visitors are advised that New London’s Winter Parking Restrictions will be enforced during this period.

A downtown parking ban will commence on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11:00 PM and will remain in effect until the conclusion of the snow event, anticipated by Monday evening, January 26. During this period, parking on downtown district streets and in the municipal parking lot is prohibited. Complimentary parking will be available in the Water Street Garage beginning Saturday afternoon, January 24. Vehicles may remain in the garage at no cost until 12:00 PM on Wednesday, January 28.  Overnight parking is prohibited in the municipal lots on Eugene O’Neill Drive between Pearl Street and Tilley Street. This regulation will be strictly enforced, and violators will be towed at the owner’s expense. This measure is required to facilitate efficient street and lot clearing. The downtown parking ban will remain active throughout the storm and during plowing operations.

Citywide winter parking restrictions include the following:

• No Parking on NARROW STREETS.

• Where parking is permitted ON ONLY ONE SIDE OF THE STREET, FOLLOW POSTED REGULATIONS.

• Where parking is permitted ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STREET, PARK ON THE “ODD” SIDE OF THE STREET ONLY.

The New London Police Department will strictly enforce these restrictions to ensure public safety. Improperly parked vehicles impede Public Works, Fire, and Police operations, particularly on the following streets: Michael Road, Anthony Road, Boulder Drive, Buchanan Road, Rogers Street, Connecticut Avenue, Belden Street, Ledyard Street, Mountain Avenue, Cape Ann Court, Eastern Avenue at the top of the hill, Terrace Avenue, Bragaw Street, Michael Road and Anthony Road, Green Street, Pratt Street, Tinker Court, and Terrace Court. Police will issue citations and remove vehicles in violation during this snow event. Michael Road and Anthony Road area is encouraged to utilize the Bates Woods Park parking lot to facilitate plowing operations.

Trash collection will follow a holiday schedule on Monday during the snowstorm. Community cooperation is essential to support effective storm response and refuse collection.

Additionally, the City of New London, in partnership with the Homeless Hospitality Center, the New London Public Library, the New London Community Meal Center, and the New London Senior Citizen Center, will provide warming centers for community members in need during this cold snowstorm period.

The Daytime Warming Center at the Homeless Hospitality Center, located at 325 Huntington Street, will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the storm. Guests who utilize the services of the New London Community Meal Center will stay open between lunch and dinner during Severe Weather Protocol—primarily serving those who are 55 years or older or who have mobility issues and do not have transportation to another warming center. Guests will also be allowed to stay at the Meal Center for a few additional hours after dinner, until the night shelter opens. The Nighttime Warming Center at the Homeless Hospitality Center’s Shelter will open at 8:00 p.m. A call to 211 is not required before arriving at the shelter. The city will be monitoring and working with the Homeless Hospitality Center to determine if additional sheltering space is needed during this storm event.

The New London Police and Fire Department personnel will closely monitor individuals at risk or in need of sheltering services. Community members are encouraged to check on family members and neighbors who may be at risk and require additional assistance during this snowstorm event.
