NEWS RELEASE
NEW LONDON, CONNECTICUT – Preliminary design has been completed for upgrades to Williams Street from Gordon Court and Huntington Avenue. The Williams Street Improvement Project - Phase 2 will continue the improvements constructed under Phase 1. Phase 2 will include sidewalk improvements, streetscape amenities, street lighting, pedestrian crossing upgrades, and improved bicycle and pedestrian amenities. These improvements will help bring a greater vitality to the Hodges Square region.
It is the City's and the State's policy to keep persons informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns to assist in the project's development. The City will conduct an informational meeting on April 27, 2026 at 7 PM at the New London Community Recreation Center, Multipurpose Room #2 - 2nd Floor, 1 Recreation Way, New London, CT.
Based upon a conceptual assessment, the construction cost will be approximately $3,000,000 including construction inspection services and contingencies. The State of Connecticut will reimburse 80% of construction costs through its Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP). The City has committed 20% of the project cost.
The meeting facility is ADA accessible.
