Police Chaplains

The New London Police Department currently has three active Police Chaplains, all of whom live and minister within the city. Chaplains accompany officers on patrol as their schedules allow and are regularly invited to participate in departmental events, including hiring ceremonies, promotions, retirements, and large-scale events such as Sailfest. Each Chaplain is asked to ride along with officers at least once a month and takes weekly on-call rotations to ensure availability outside of scheduled shifts. They understand they may be called upon at any time, day or night.

Trained specifically in police chaplaincy, including the Resilient Minds On the Front Lines program, the Chaplains are equipped to provide emotional and spiritual support during critical incidents. Their presence helps foster stronger connections between the police department and the community, reinforcing trust and support during difficult times. This standardized training ensures that Chaplains in New London can operate seamlessly alongside those in neighboring communities when mutual aid is needed.

Interest in the program continues to grow, and the department is currently exploring the addition of more Chaplains to meet community and operational needs.
