Animal Control

New London Animal Control is a section of the New London Police Department Investigative Services Division. There are two full time Assistant Animal Control Officers whose purpose is to enforce state statutes and municipal ordinances pertaining to dogs. This includes capture and impoundment of roaming dogs, animal bite investigations, animal cruelty investigations, nuisance dog investigations and rabies control. 

License/Vaccination Requirements

Dogs and cats are required to be vaccinated for rabies at three months of age. Dogs are required to be licensed at six months of age.  

The fee for licensing is:

*$8.00 for a spayed or neutered dog or  
*$19.00 for unspayed or unneutered dog. 
All dogs are required to be licensed or renewed by June 30th of each year.  There is a $1.00 per month late fee for dogs licensed after this date.

Beaches and City Parks/Playgrounds
Per City Ordinance, dogs are required to be leashed while on any public property, any city park/playground and are prohibited on any city beach property. 

 

Animal Control Fees:

  • Redemption of an impounded dog: $15.00
  • Advertisement fee:  Cost
  • Board fee per day:  $10.00
  • Quarantine/board fee per day:  $5.00
