Maintenance

Building Maintenance Division

is responsible for the repair, replacement and upkeep of all of the City of New London’s buildings and faculties, as well as street lights and traffic lights. This includes all City-owned buildings including City Hall, 13-15 Masonic Street, Police Headquarters and two Police Substations, three Fire Stations, Stanton Building and the Senior Center, and the BP Learning Center.

The Division also maintains 33 traffic intersections, 16,000 street signs and 2531 streetlights.

 

Mechanical Maintenance

The Mechanical Maintenance Division is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all of the the City’s fleet of vehicles and other motorized equipment. This includes Fire and Ambulance apparatus, Police Vehicles, Public works vehicles, and ancillary equipment such as mowers, chain saws, chippers, boom trucks, electronic signs and generators, totaling more than 200 pieces of equipment, with a staff of four. 


Parks Maintenance

The City has responsibility for recreational facilities at all park locations, schools and public green spaces totaling 370 acres, with a staff of six. 

 

Highway Maintenance 

The Highway Maintenance Division is responsible for the maintenance and repair of 64 miles of City streets, and associated sidewalks. This work includes street sweeping, pavement patching, snow and ice control, litter control, street tree maintenance, roadside brush clearing, street sign maintenance, street crosswalk and driving lane painting, and the removal of debris on streets with a staff of six.
